17th Century historic country inn. Comfortable en-suite rooms, award winning meals from local produce, traditional beers. Ideal location for exploring the Shropshire countryside.
It is a Grade II listed Tudor Inn - it was once a "Hundred House" where the courts of latter day passed their judgement. With many of its original features still in place, such as great oak beams, flagstone floors and the large Inglenook fireplace that is the central feature of the main bar area, you can sit and sample traditional ales, fine fare, and a wonderful welcome from your hosts, Richard & Jane Arnold, in historic surroundings.
The Crown is set in an "area of outstanding natural beauty", and the towns of Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Telford, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth and Craven Arms are all within easy travelling distance. The Crown makes a perfect base to stop whilst enjoying sights such as the Ironbridge Gorge, Stokesay Castle, Ludlow Castle or the Severn Valley Railway. If you really want to see the beauty of one of England's undiscovered counties, a walk upon the Wenlock Edge or Long Mynd will astound!
Excellent freshly prepared food, fine wines and traditional cask ales with wonderful hospitality. Winners of Good Eating Awards. Best Restaurant 2001/2002 and 2003/2004. The restaurant was also "highly commended" at the 2003 Heart of England "Food and Drink Excellence" awards in the "Best Restaurant using Local Produce" category. Major achievements for the owners, who only took over the Crown in Aug 2001!
