Suggested Shropshire Itineraries For Groups
DISCOVER THE BIRTHPLACE OF
INDUSTRY
10.00 Depart Telford
10.15 Arrive in Ironbridge. Your trip to Shropshire is not
complete without crossing the world’s first Iron Bridge
whilst enjoying the beautiful setting of The Gorge where
the Industrial Revolution began.
10.45 Cross the road to a licensed tea room with an authentic
Victorian atmosphere for cream teas and home made cakes.
11.15 A short walk then to the Museum of the Gorge, a riverside
Gothic warehouse where goods from the Coalbrookdale Company
once began their journey to the rest of the world. Now you
can see a 40ft scale model of the river valley as it was
in 1796 and with the help of interactive computers discover
the environmental effects of years of industry in the Gorge.
12.00 A short drive will take you to the Coalbrookdale Museum
of Iron where you will learn about the history of early iron
making with a spectacular collection of fine art casting,
a legacy to the great skills of the Coalbrookdale Company
craftsmen and the versatility of iron.
Alternatively, on the same site you can choose to visit
Enginuity, the new hands-on interactive centre that unravels
the workings of everyday objects in four seamless zones – materials,
energy, design and systems & control.
13.00 Lunch at the Museum of Iron coffee shop.
14.00 Return to Telford
N.B. Coach parking is available in each museum car park
and in the Station car park by the toll house for the bridge.
