Much Wenlock, Birthplace of the modern Olympic Games

Celebrate the Olympics without the crowds or tracksuits! The official 2012 Olympic Mascot 'Wenlock' is inspired by and named after Much Wenlock in Shropshire.

Distance from Shrewsbury, approx. 13 miles/30 mins drive

Start your trip with a visit to Much Wenlock Museum and Visitor Information Centre (www.muchwenlockmuseum.co.uk Tel: 01952 727679)

The new displays tell the story of the links between Dr. William Penny Brookes and the Olympic Games, the history of the town and priory and the geology of Wenlock Edge.

Guided walking tours of Much Wenlock are also available. The tours cost £1.50 per person given as a donation to help support the museum. Due to the narrow and uneven pavements large groups are split into approximate groups of 1-20 persons per guide. The tours last approximately 90 minutes.

Stop for coffee or an early lunch at one of Much Wenlock's cafes, pubs or restaurants. The Visitor Information Centre will advise, or visit www.shropshirefoodanddrink.co.uk

Coach Parking in Much Wenlock: Coach Parking available at Wenlock Priory.
