Royal Jubilee Celebration at Blists Hill Victorian Town (27th February 2012)

Royal Jubilee Celebration at Blists Hill Victorian Town

Townsfolk at Blists Hill Victorian Town, near Ironbridge, Shropshire will be celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of their much-loved Queen Victoria with great style, pomp and pageantry over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th June.

Each day will be a fitting tribute to the gracious lady’s long reign with an extravaganza of colour, music and entertainment, while the town will be decorated in patriotic fashion.

A highlight will be the daily concert on The Green in Her Majesty’s honour with patriotic entertainment, including bagpipe players and drummers from the Seaforth Highlanders band in full Scottish costume (Saturday - Monday only), the Wellington (Telford) Brass Band, and the Prince Albert Players. This small company of strolling actors will perform scenes from novels by Charles Dickens.

For younger visitors they can watch a traditional Punch and Judy Show or try their hand at skills from a bygone era.

As festivities take place, local townsfolk will still be going about their daily lives in the authentic houses and shops, baking bread, counting coins at the bank and talking about Victorian remedies in the chemist. Craftsmen will also be at work in the Artisans’ Yard.

Open 10am to 5pm Blists Hill is one of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums.
