New falconry attraction at Hawkstone Park (4th April 2012)

New falconry attraction at Hawkstone Park

Visitors could be winging their way to a new attraction as Hawkstone Park lives up to its name. The leading Shrewsbury tourist attraction has joined forces with Shropshire-based Feather Perfect Falconry to offer educational packages for guests to find out more about hawks, falcons and owls.

The Follies at Hawkstone Park in Weston-under-Redcastle is a haven for birds of prey and the new partnership will see the opening of the new Bird of Prey Educational Centre.

Stephen Cross, director of Feather Perfect, said the experience will enable visitors to go on Hawk Walks and Owl Experiences including twilight walks with our trained birds and take memorable close-up photos.

“The Follies attracts a wide range of wild birds of prey that can now be seen alongside our select collection of captive bred birds. You will be able to see close-up our spectacular birds flying through the ancient woodland which will be quite a sight to behold,” she said.

“We have over 30 years’ experience of flying birds of prey and we will be offering visitors the opportunity of a personal experience through areas of the park which are not usually open to the public to see these birds in full flight.

“The thrill of holding these birds and seeing them fly at such close quarters is magnificent and the trip could allow budding photographers to practice their skills and gain some fantastic images.

“We also offer learning packages in the new educational centre at the Follies which caters for school visits. Our talks and activities are geared towards the curriculum and connecting children with nature, a lesson for life.”

David Sims, general manager of Hawkstone Park, said this link-up would add an extra dimension for visitors to The Follies to enable them to get up close and personal with their birds of prey.

“This is the perfect location to enjoy finding out more about these wonderful birds from a team of experts,” he said.

“Feather Perfect Falconry will be having static displays throughout the season with a flying display during the Myth and Magic Weekend on July 14 and 15 and the Medieval Weekend from August 25-27.

“We believe this will add an exciting addition to the many and varied elements of The Follies.”
