Jubilee fun for your Little Diamonds (23rd May 2012)

This June Half Term the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a Spitfire flypast and a week of royal themed activities to keep the children entertained. The event will start on Saturday 2nd June with a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire at 11.35am (weather permitting). Craft activities will run each day throughout the school holiday until Sunday 10th June.

Become a royal for the day by making and decorating your very own crown.  With a range of designs and colours available, there is sure to be a crown to suit every young Prince and Princess.  All the glitter, diamonds and sparkle you need to make your very own diamond encrusted Crowns will be provided by the Museum.  Once your crown is complete, why not try your hand at making one of our fabulous London themed desk tidy’s in the form of a Queens Guard, Beefeater and Policeman.  Made from colourful card and foam, these cute characters will brighten up any desk or make a great Jubilee gift for Mums, Dads, Grandparents or even your favorite teacher.  Plus, you get to take your creations home as a memento of the day.

In addition to this, every child will be able to design and decorate their own section of bunting. The sections will then be pieced together to make a huge bunting display within the Museum - let's see how long we can make it!  The bunting will remain on display in the Museum’s National Cold War Exhibition throughout the jubilee celebrations, including HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the Museum on 12th July.

Any visitors wishing to take part in the activity are asked to purchase a ticket from the Admissions Desk on arrival.  Making a crown costs just £1.50 per person and to make a desk tidy cost just £2.00 per person. Designing your own section of bunting to add to our Jubilee display is included in the ticket price.  These hands on sessions will run from 11.00am-12.30pm and 2.00pm-3.30pm each day in the Museum’s Visitor Centre.
For more information on the Diamond Jubilee Activities, please call the Museum on 01902 376200 or visit The Museum is open daily from 10am – 6pm and entry is FREE.
