Spitfire flypast for Air Ambulance Fundraiser (27th June 2012)

A Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire will take to the skies over Shropshire this weekend as part of the ‘Bike 4 Life Summer Run’ event in aid of Midlands Air Ambulance, in collaboration with the Royal Air Force Museum. Participating bikers and Museum visitors will be treated to a show stopping flypast scheduled for 2.30pm on Sunday 1st July after a 60 mile charity ride through parts of the West Midlands.

Also showing their support for the event is Channels 5’s Emergency Bikers who will be leading the ride from Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Football Club training ground to the Museum.  Meet with these frontline heroes of the West Midlands Ambulance Service and learn how these biker paramedics help save lives on a daily basis.

Any bikers wishing to participate in the event are invited to gather at Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Football Club training ground from 9.00am ready to depart at 11.00am.  Riders will travel in groups of 200 on a scenic route through parts of the West Midlands, Worcestershire and Shropshire, following a route map provided by staff on the day. Upon arrival at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford there will be plenty of refreshments, live music entertainment from a local rock band, exhibitors, a fun fair, plus access to the Museum’s world class and award-winning aircraft collection.

This weekend will be the third annual ‘Bike 4 Life Summer Run’, which over the years has seen thousands of bikers raising much needed funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance.  Between March and May this year, 175 road traffic accidents have required airlifts by Midlands Air Ambulance.  Money raised through fundraising events such as this enable the charity to continue saving the lives of motorists on a daily basis.

So, if you’re a biker and you’re not already registered, why not be a part of this fun charity ride out and sign up today! To register in advance for ‘Bike 4 Life Summer Run’ visit: www.midlandsairambulance.com or email bike4life@midlandsairambulance.com

For anyone who isn’t a biker but would like to show their support, you can do so by visiting the Museum on the day and be ready to welcome the bikers as they arrive.  The day’s activities will conclude (subject to weather conditions) with a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire Flypast.

Organisers are asking participants to make a donation on the day, with all proceeds from the event going towards the running costs of two great local charities; Midlands Air Ambulance and the Royal Air Force Museum.
