Life rafts & space buggies this half term at Cosford (9th October 2012)

Life rafts & space buggies this half term at Cosford

With only two weeks to go until the schools holidays, it’s time to start thinking of how you’re going to entertain the children all week without spending a small fortune. This Half Term, the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford invites all children over 5 to join in a FREE and exciting activity in which both they and their friends will become active participants in an air sea rescue and discover how the Royal Air Force mounts such operations in hazardous conditions.

Running from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th October, children will be able to experience, in each session, what it is really like to be marooned in a life raft and will learn various survival techniques with their fellow crew members.  Participants will also watch a DVD of an actual RAF rescue and learn about the dangers of the sea.  Sessions will start at 11.00am and 2.00pm each week day and will be located in the Museum’s Hangar 1.  Participation in this event is FREE of charge. Younger children will need to be accompanied by an adult but are welcome to participate in this experience.

For those school children whose Half Term is slightly later  this year, the Museum will be running a Moon Machine drawing competition from Monday 29th October to Friday 2nd November.  Children can enter the competition in three different age categories - Under 7s, 7 to 11s, and over 11s - to win a £15 voucher to spend in the Royal Air Force Museum Shop on anything from t-shirts and books to model kits and toys.  Participation in the competition is free of charge. Children wishing to enter can pick up their drawing sheet from the Admissions Desk on arrival, and be as creative and imaginative as they can when designing their machine fit for a trip across the surface of the moon.  The competition will close at the end of play on Friday 2nd November and winners will be notified by post within seven days. Terms and Conditions apply.

The Museum is open daily from 10am. Admission to the Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford and to both of the above activities is free of charge. For further information please contact the Museum on 01902 376200 or visit www.rafmuseum.org/fun4all
