Shrewsbury is set to 'Eat out for Africa' (19th October 2012)

Thirteen cafes and restaurants in Shrewsbury have signed up to join locally based development charity, Self Help Africa, for their first-ever 'Eat out for Africa' event to celebrate World Food Day on Saturday 20th October.

Profits from special dishes on the menus of some of the towns best loved eateries will be donated to the charity to continue its work in rural Africa.

Working for nearly 30 years to eliminate poverty and hunger, in the aftermath of the Ethiopian famine and southern African food crises of the 1980s, Self Help Africa will invest all proceeds from the event to help African families produce more food and grow sustainable crops.

Popular with residents and visitors alike,  Alfie and Billy’s, The Boiler Room, Café Esp, Cromwell’s, Carmar Tearoom, La Dolce Vita, Libertines, Morgans, Off the Square, Taste, The Bird’s Nest, Mad Jacks and The Good Life have all signed up to support the charity through the event.

Alongside the restaurant promotions, Self Help Africa will be taking pride of place in the Square in Shrewsbury to celebrate World Food Day with the town’s visitors, where children’s activities, entertainment and stalls will keep the crowds occupied throughout the day.
