FEBRUARY FAMILY FUN AND WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP AT STOKESAY CASTLE (8th February 2013)

FEBRUARY FAMILY FUN AND WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP AT STOKESAY CASTLE

FEBRUARY FAMILY FUN AND WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP AT STOKESAY CASTLE

One of Shropshire’s most charming historic gems, Stokesay Castle is promising fun for families visiting over the February half term holiday, with daily opening and a special trail around the buildings and grounds of this fortified manor house.

Located close to Ludlow, Stokesay Castle is a superbly preserved medieval manor, with its timber framed gatehouse.  Built in the late 13th century and barely altered since, the castle lends itself perfectly to the family fun trail, which will prompt visitors young and old to explore all the different parts of the castle, hunting out clues to win a small prize!

“Stokesay Castle is a wonderful site to explore – small enough that children feel comfortable looking around every nook and cranny, and yet the thick stone walls still provide the impression of strength that you would expect from a castle,” says site manager, Julie Hall .

The trail is free with admission to Stokesay Castle.  Entry is £6.00 for adults, £5.40 for concessions and just £3.60 for children, with a family ticket (two adults and up to three children) available for £15.60.  Stokesay Castle is open daily from 16-24 February 2013, and every weekend until main season opening times resume at Easter.  For more information, please call 01588 672544.

The attractive appearance of Stokesay Castle, set in rolling countryside, has also prompted English Heritage to make Stokesay the focus of a Watercolour Workshop on Friday 15 March.  Artists of all skill levels can make superb use of the castle as their muse, working with a top watercolour teacher to learn new techniques and hopefully produce some stunning works of art to take home.

The Watercolour Workshop runs from 10.00am until 3.00pm on Friday 15 March, priced at £55 for adults (English Heritage members receive a £5 discount), with lunch included.  Places need to be booked in advance by calling English Heritage’s customer services team on 0870 333 1183.
