The Dorothy Clive Garden now open every weekend during February and March 2013

The Dorothy Clive Garden - a Charitable Garden Trust - will be opening exclusively on all weekends during February and March 2013 from 10.00am until 4.00pm at the special discounted fundraising price of £3.50 per person. Children between 0-4 are admitted for free and 5-17s are admitted at £2.00.

The garden tea room, which is situated in the heart of the garden, will also be open serving a selection of delicious seasonal soups, stews and homemade scones. Hot drinks will be available to purchase.

Visitors will be able to delight in the intimate and informal gardens set amidst glorious countryside and enjoy the early flowering shrubs such as Hamamelis (witch hazel), Helleborus niger (Christmas rose), Viburnum x bodnantense, Daphne bholua ‘Jacqueline Postill’, evergreens and snowdrops.

Curator, Marcus Chilton-Jones, said, ‘We are pleased to open the garden again for weekends enabling visitors to delight in the emerging spring bulbs and to view the many improvements we have implemented over the closed period. We are in the process of creating a new edible woodland which will be used for the enjoyment and benefit of the public, and support our charitable objectives of continuing to promote horticultural education.’

The 12 acre garden, initially conceived by Colonel Harry Clive for the love for his wife Dorothy, who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease, and has evolved continually since 1940 and hosts a huge variety of trees, shrubs, bulbs, plants, perennials and climbers.

The official season for the Dorothy Clive Garden starts from 1st April until 30th September 2013. The garden will be open seven days a week from 10.00am to 5.30pm and the garden tearoom will be open from 11.00am to 5.00pm daily.
