Shrewsbury named one of top places to live

Shrewsbury voted one of the best places to live in the UK - come and see why!

Shropshire’s medieval county town, Shrewsbury is celebrating after being named in the top 12 'little nirvanas' in the Midlands following a survey carried out by national newspaper The Sunday Times.

The results of the Sunday Times looked into an area’s transport links, the quality of schools, its natural beauty, the low crime rates, property prices, cultural life and unemployment figures. Each area was also assessed on its own individual assets, which included festivals and 'fascinating architecture'.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live was edited by the newspaper's associate editor and broadcaster, Eleanor Mills. She is also author of the Beyond the Brochure property column and has visited every corner of the country to assess the pros and cons of relocating.

Ms Mills said: "Scampering around Britain for my column I find there are particular bits of our crowded island which always retain a particular attraction for people. We have built on this basic information to create a definitive guide."

Best Places to Live will run across two weekends on March 17 and 24, in The Sunday Times home pages.

Simon McCloy, Chief Executive at Shropshire Tourism said, "We are delighted with the news that Shrewsbury has been voted one of the best places to live in the UK. For anyone thinking of relocating to Shrewsbury, or for anyone just wanting to escape for a short break in Shrewsbury to see just why it is so great, please visit www.shropshiretourism.co.uk"
