Shropshire outdoor pursuits specialists, Live the Adventure, in Stottesdon, are offering a free fun day out for all the family

(20th March 2013)

Visitors to Live the Adventure will be offered the chance to try a new outdoor pursuit, a cross between surfing and canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, at the centre's annual open day next month. The event will be held in aid of the Riding for the Disabled Association, on Sunday April 28 between 11am-4pm.

Headlining this year’s event is Shropshire’s very own para-equestrian dressage rider, Ricky Balshaw. Ricky is a paralympian and competed in Bejing taking a silver medal.  Hotly tipped for London 2012, having recovered from a broken back, he then suffered the heart break of being unable to compete due to his horse becoming lame.  Now looking ahead to the Rio Games in 2016, he will spend the day with Live the Adventure to talk about his experience as a rider with cerebral palsy. Ricky will be bring his Olympic medal and other trophies and will happily sign autographs.

Stand up paddle boarding (also known as SUP-ing) is one of a range of activities which visitors to the centre can try free of charge at the open day.  Other free taster sessions include pony riding, climbing, slacklining, caving, leap of faith, archery and laser tag and more.
Live the Adventure owner Anthony Eddis-Davies said: "There has been a real surge in the popularity of stand up paddle boarding recently.  A cross between surfing and paddlesport, it is an enjoyable way to take to the water and a great way to improve your fitness - but if you think you’d like a go, please bring a spare change of clothes with you!."
Extra activities include a special gymnastic demonstration in canoes on the centre's lake, western style horse riding, presentations on the centre's latest adventure holidays, courses, summer camps and more, and food and drink available throughout the day.
