Nepal Trip for Live the Adventure Staff (30th April 2013)

Live the Adventure's worldwide travel staff have just returned from a successful trip to Nepal providing Western Rescue 3 certification and training for Nepali guides employed by some of Nepal’s top rafting companies.

Since Anthony Eddies-Davies, Live the Adventure’s Company Director, started travelling to the Himalayas, following his passion for kayaking 22 years ago, he felt now was the time to give something back to his friends and colleagues in Nepal.

Many people travel to Nepal for adventure; be it the magnetism of the mountains and the spectacular scenery or thrill of the rivers, with their big rapids and warm water.

If you decide to experience the thrill of white water rafting then you are likely to come across some of the Nepali companies and guides helped by Anthony’s commitment to maintain and raise standards on the rivers.

In addition to their extensive knowledge of local river hydrology, the local Nepali companies at Grgs Adventure Kayaking, Paddle Nepal, Equator Expeditions, Adrenaline Rush and Royal Beach Camp now have guides with internationally recognised Rescue 3 qualifications in water rescue.  These techniques are widely used in the UK, Europe and other countries worldwide, by the emergency services and numerous other organisations working in and around still and running water environments.

Whilst it’s not compulsory for the guides out in Nepal to have this qualification or any for that matter, it does higher the safety standards of river running in Nepal and provides new young guides up to date safety techniques. This internationally recognised qualification is important if guides want to go and work abroad to Japan, Norway etc. We are thrilled to have been able to run these courses and based on the inundation of calls for spare places, we hope to expand this initiative, and run more in the future.

Following the training week, Live the Adventures Worldwide Travel staff outfitted a multi adventure trip, that we call ‘Adventure Nepal’.  This includes trekking, white water rafting and wildlife spotting on elephant safari in Chitwan National Park in Western Nepal, with numerous opportunities to immerse yourself in the Nepalese culture. This adventure combines the very best features of the Himalayan Kingdom making it a destination for the holiday of a lifetime.
