Dudmaston Celebrates Father’s Day with Gamekeepers of the Past (12th June 2013)

Dudmaston Celebrates Father’s Day with Gamekeepers of the Past

Dudmaston is preparing for a great way for families to celebrate Father’s Day with their Gamekeepers of the Past event this Sunday 16th June 2013.

The property will be joined by Feather Perfect Falconry who will be bringing a number of birds and ferrets that visitors can meet and find out more about how these animals would have been worked on the property.

There will be approximately 12 – 15 birds on display including a Harris Hawk, Bengal Eagle Owl, American Kestrel and Lanner Falcons and there will be two flying demonstrations on the day at 1.15pm and 4.15pm during which members of the audience may find themselves taking part.

Shropshire Scout Archers will also be part of the event bringing with them longbows and various replica arrows.  They will also be giving visitors more of an insight into the work of an Archer and, for a small donation, visitors will be able to take part in some ‘have a go archery’.

As part of the day Stourbridge Pre-War Car Club will be in the Orchard area with their collection of vintage motors so there is sure to be something to please everyone.

Visitor Experience and Conservation Manager, Tessa Lovell said “Dudmaston has always been a working estate and we wanted to be able to give our visitors an insight into how the property would have been worked in the past.  Historically animals were not kept as pets but were kept so that they could be worked and we thought it would be great to bring the story of these traditional skills to life for our visitors.  This is a great family event as there will be something for everyone to get involved with and we do hope that all our visitors have a wonderful day.”

Further information on the games can be found by calling the property on (01746) 780866 or by taking a look at Dudmaston’s website
