OYSTER CAKE? SWEETCORN SPONGE? SAUSAGE ICING? IT CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING - IT'S BRITISH FOOD FORTNIGHT (19th September 2013)

OYSTER CAKE? SWEETCORN SPONGE? SAUSAGE ICING? IT CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING - IT'S BRITISH FOOD FORTNIGHT

Earlier today, commuters at St Pancras station were treated to a slice of edible England as the national tourist board unveiled a giant cake representing the country’s huge array of food festivals (including Ludlow in Shropshire!) to mark British Food Fortnight (21 September - 6 October).

Travellers lined up to sample oyster cake (Whitstable Oyster Festival), sausage icing (Ludlow Food Festival), edible flowers (Royal Horticultural Society’s new Taste of Autumn Food Festival) and many more weird and wonderful foodie delights.

VisitEngland has today released figures exposing just what a foodie nation we have become. Stats reveal that 13 million day visits last year involved a trip to a food festival or farmers’ market, and what’s more, 26.2 million of us want to go to a food festival this year. Research also reveals that almost 7/10 (68%) of us would like to buy local produce whilst on holiday and nearly 8/10 (76%) of us want to dine at restaurants serving local dishes.

Following Ludlow's hugely successful Food Festival last weekend, the dates for the 2014 Ludlow Food Festival have already been set so make a note in your diary for 12th - 14th September 2014! Click here to find out more about Ludlow Food Festival
