Apley Farm Shop to join Spookley the Square Pumpkin Anti- Bullying Programme (3rd October 2013)

Apley Farm Shop to join Spookley the Square Pumpkin Anti- Bullying Programme

Apley Farm Shop near Bridgnorth is to feature Spookley the Square Pumpkin in farm-based events this October.

October means Autumn is here, harvest is in & with October come pumpkins. Apley Farm Shop near Bridgnorth, Shropshire, has joined the Spookley the Square Pumpkin Programme, designed to raise awareness for bullying prevention. Through farm-based activities on 19 -20 October 2013 & continuing during half term 26-31 October 2013, its aim is to help younger visitors understand the importance of being tolerant & kind to others.

Spookley was first introduced to millions of children in the United States through the book The legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano, in which he is shunned by all of the round pumpkins until a mighty storm threatens to destroy the entire pumpkin patch & only Spookley, with his unique shape, can save the day.

Spookley is the number one anti-bullying campaign in the US and is set to take the UK & Ireland by storm (hopefully not literally!), with 15 farms across the countries involved this year and more set to join next year.

Apley Farm Shop is the only farm in the West Midlands to be embracing Spookley and his story with visitors throughout the Autumn, apart from Old Yarr in Worcestershire which is also running it.

“Spookley is a fun character with a wonderful message,” say (Lady Harriet Hamilton, Marketing Manager). “We are delighted to share Spookley with our visitors to raise awareness and help put a stop to bullying.” Apley Farm Shop will be open to the public as usual 9.30-5.30pm Monday to Saturday, 10-4pm on Sundays. It will feature Spookley in activities daily 10-4pm, including tractor & trailer rides (The Pumpkin Express), PYO Pumpkins, story time readings by the friendly witch, pumpkin carving, toffee apples, donkey rides, free tasters of pumpkin recipes & a pumpkin menu in The Creamery Cafe Restaurant.
