Severn Valley Railway Named Best Tourism Experience (29th October 2013)

Staff and volunteers at the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) are celebrating after it was named Best Tourism Experience in the 2013 Visit Worcestershire Awards for Excellence.

Lisa Smith, Assistant Visitor Services Manager, was in attendance as the results were announced at the Destination Worcestershire’s Annual Tourism Conference held at Stanbrook Abbey in Callow End on Thursday (24 Oct) and accepted the award on behalf of the SVR.

The SVR was awarded the accolade after a representative from Visit Worcestershire visited the Railway, along with the other shortlisted candidates.

Lisa Smith said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the title of Best Tourism Experience.
“Our volunteers work incredibly hard to make sure a trip on the Railway is a great day out for all our visitors.”

The Railway is currently preparing for Halloween and half-term, during which it will host a range of activities including its popular Ghost Trains which run on 26, 30 and 31 October.

There will also be additional entertainment at The Engine House Visitor Centre including spooky-themed magic shows from Picklelily Circus during the day on 29, 30 and 31 October and a spooky quiz and competition. Entry to The Engine House and half-term activities is free with a ‘Freedom of the Line’ ticket or Annual Family Pass. For more information and to book tickets, visit the Special Event page at www.svr.co.uk or call 01299 403816.
