An Evening of Poetry at the Dorothy Clive Garden (6th May 2014)

Local poet and creative writing lecturer, James Sheard, will be reciting his newly published work 'Facing the Garden' - a booklet of poetry produced for, and about, the Dorothy Clive Garden, during his year as Poet-In-Residence. The event is on Monday 12th May 2014 from 6.15pm at the Dorothy Clive Garden.

Visitors are invited to an evening of canapés, poetry recital and a chance to purchase the poetry booklets, 'Facing the Garden' at a reduced price on the evening.

The event is a pre-booked tickets only. Please book on to this event by either calling 01630 647 237 or emailing julia@dorothyclivegarden.co.uk.

James Sheard was Poet-In-Residence from September 2012 to September 2013 and was commissioned to celebrate the sensory impression of the garden via the written word.

The residency celebrated the Dorothy Clive Garden as a place of evolving horticultural artistry and design, via the creative expression of poetry, and commemorated the garden’s informality, diversity, tranquillity, peace and wonder.

Poet-In-Residence, James Sheard, said, ‘For a poet, ideas which are represented by the establishment and maintenance of a garden - place, love, healing, memorial, permanence made of transient things - are natural subjects which are enjoyable to write about’.

James Sheard is a published poet and creative writing lecturer at Keele University. James’s work has been shortlisted for various poetry and literary prizes such as the Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2005. For further information, please visit his website www.jsheard.co.uk.
