Ironwork centre "Branch out" to commemorate the Centenary of World War One (19th June 2014)

A brace of Oswestry organisations are teaming up to encourage local schoolchildren to plant trees to commemorate the Centenary of World War One.

The British Ironwork Centre and the Borderland Rotary Club, both of Oswestry, will be working with local schools to become involved in a project led by The Woodland Trust in which they are providing packs of saplings to be planted to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The Centre will be providing an area of land within Shropshire’s first Sculpture Park at its Aston base for the children to create a copse which will also benefit the environment and local wildlife.

Clive Knowles, Chairman, said “This is a wonderful way to commemorate the First World War Centenary and to encourage the involvement of local schoolchildren. It’s such a positive project in many ways, and we hope that the children will come back to visit the trees which will grow up as they do!”
