Discover how the Victorians prepare for winter at Blists Hill Victorian Town (17th September 2014)

Discover how the Victorians prepare for winter at Blists Hill Victorian Town

Join the residents at Blists Hill Victorian Town, near Ironbridge over the weekend of Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September 2014 and discover how they prepared for winter.

With the harvest home and late summer fruits now picked, see how the townsfolk store their produce and make preserves to last through the colder months. Mrs Clack and her assistant will be in the Goods Shed at 11.30am and 2pm where you can learn about curious Victorian remedies for chills and common winter ailments, cookery tips, early arrangements for Christmas treats, such as preparing the fruits for the pudding. You will also hear about how the Victorians passed their time on the long winter nights with activities such as rag rug making, knitting and sewing.

Afterwards join in the sing-a-long in the New Inn pub or buy a portion of traditionally prepared fish and chips from the town’s Fried Fish Dealer. The delicious aroma of freshly cooked bread in the bakers might also tempt you to buy a loaf to take home.

Open 10am to 5pm, Blists Hill Victorian Town is one of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums. A great value Annual Passport Ticket allowing entry into all ten museums, valid for twelve months and unlimited return visits, costs £27.50 per adult, £21 for the 60 plus, £16.50 for students and children and £68 for a family of two adults and all their children aged up to 18 years in full time education (terms and conditions apply); under 5s free.
