Show has recipe for success with celebrity chef

A celebrity chef will be helping to add extra flavour to the Newport show. Paul Rankin, TV chef and presenter, will demonstrate his culinary skills in the Food Court at the Chetwynd Deer Park on show day July 11.

Show manager Clare Farrell said: “The show has become a firm date on the social calendar for food-lovers.

“It gives them the chance to sample the finest food and drink from across the region, set high on a countryside terrace with wonderful views of the showground.

“Increasing numbers of exhibitors see it as an important event to showcase their products and every year we receive excellent feed-back from visitors who enjoy the experience.

“Recognising the growing interest in this aspect of the show, the committee decided to give them an extra treat and sign up a star name to entertain in the food demonstration area.”

The Northern Irish chef, will undertake cooking demonstrations in the Food Court before meeting children and traders.

Paul has been a popular TV chef for many years and continues to appear as a guest chef and presenter on many programmes.

Most recently, with fellow chef Nick Nairn, he presented three series of ‘Paul and Nick’s Big Food Trip’, travelling on a boat around the coasts of Northern Ireland and Scotland exploring their Ulster Scots culinary heritage. In the third series they visited the USA for ‘Paul and Nick’s Big American Food Trip’, which was shown on UTV in Spring 2015.

Clare added: “It will be the 106th show and while we like to keep its roots in farming, we know thousands of people come for the family attractions, food being one of them.

“Cookery programmes are now massively popular on TV and this year our visitors can meet a chef who has been part of the great movement to get the nation cooking again.”
