Prees Heath Open Day – Sunday 5th July (16th June 2015)

Prees Heath Open Day – Sunday 5th July

The recently restored former RAF control tower at Butterfly Conservation’s Prees Heath Common Reserve will be open from 10.00am until 5.00pm on Sunday 5th July – all are welcome to come, and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

In addition there will be a guided walk on that day starting at the reserve entrance on the access track opposite the Steel Heath turning off the A49 at 2.00pm, when people will be shown the best areas to see the Silver-studded Blue butterflies and hear about their remarkable life cycle, as well as having the opportunity to visit the interior of the control tower. Prees Heath Common is the last remaining place in the Midlands where this particular species of butterfly survives, mainly because of the destruction of its heathland habitat. The walk will last for about 2.5 hours. The Silver-studded Blues are very photogenic so make sure you bring a camera.

For more information please contact Stephen Lewis, Prees Heath Warden with Butterfly Conservation, on 07900 886809 or by email at phwarden@tiscali.co.uk.
