Newport Town Council hosts England's biggest heritage festival! (31st July 2015)

Newport Town Council hosts England's biggest heritage festival!

Heritage Open Days celebrate history, heritage & culture. On a national level, the programme is managed by the National Trust and funded by players of People's Postcode Lottery and Historic England.

Heritage Open Days are England's biggest heritage festival.  In celebration of our history, architecture and culture we are offering people the chance to seek out the little charms this unique county can offer. Try new experiences right on your doorstep, from visiting castles and halls right through to taking part in workshops and tours that bring local history and culture to life – all of which are FREE to explore!

As part of a four day celebration, with around 40,000 volunteers, country-wide, who help organise, support and take part; this unique event caters for over 3 million visitors making Heritage Open Days England’s biggest voluntary cultural event.

Lee Jakeman, Town Clerk comments:

"Newport Town Council is to open its doors in the Historic Guildhall, High Street Newport, for guided tours, and a programme of activities’ for one day: Saturday 12th September 2015 from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm with support from the History Society who will provide information and facts on the unique architecture."
