A prestigious curry competition in the county of Shropshire; run by Shropshire Council, has announced its winner!

In true Master Chef style, Jukria Raza of Massala in Craven Arms was awarded the prestigious title of Shropshire Council’s Curry Chef of the Year 2015 after a dramatic final ‘cook-off’ on Tuesday 11 August.

One of four finalists within Shropshire who serve, Indian, Bangladeshi, Balti, Thai & takeaways were invited to put their businesses forward for the "Curry Chef of the Year" award.

The criteria set out included chefs who produced the most nutritious and best curry, with a rice dish and a side accompaniment. Part of the criteria was to have high standards of food hygiene (three or above) in their premises and catering practices. Each entry welcomed a visit from the health protection and prevention team to make sure that the standard of hygiene was met, furthermore they had the opportunity to sample the food on offer!

The judges included members of the Shropshire Council, Public Health and Derwen College, and celebrated Jukria's win as the first female to get through to the finals AND first female to win the title.
