Battle of Britain Weekend

RAF Museum 12th-13th September

The Museum will be commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, considered the most important event in Royal Air Force history. Join us for a nostalgic weekend of events and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire Flypast (weather permitting)

Wartime Classroom

Discover school life in 1940 with our period headmistress and headmaster. Learn about lessons being taught during the school day, life for children at school and play some period games. £3.00 per person to take part.

Wartime Photo Booth

Delve into our dressing up box full of uniforms and aviation accessories, select your props and then step into our wartime photo booth and smile for the camera! £3.00 per person includes 4 photos to take away as a souvenir.

Storytelling (Saturday only)

Hear stories about the brave men and women who took part in the Battle of Britain. Find out who they were and missions in which they served as heroes of the Battle of Britain. These storytelling sessions and suitable for the whole family.

Second World War Ops Room

See how a WWII RAF Ops Room operated during the Battle of Britain era, brought to life by re-enactors.

Battle of Britain 'Wings of Glory' Game

Join the RAF as they seek to defend Britain against the ever increasing Luftwaffe attacks along the South Coast. Using Wings of Glory simple rules, you can take control of one of our Hurricanes or Spitfires and do YOUR bit to win the Battle of Britain.

Engine Demonstrations

Working demonstrations through out the weekend with both Leonides and a Bristol engines. Always a popular highlight at Cosford, but you may want to cover your ears, its going to get noisy!

Live Music

There will be live music on both days including performances from Marjorie Cartwright-Jones in a 1940s Home Front Cabaret. During this unintentionally comic ‘make do and mend’ class, Marjorie attempts to dispense advice and thrifty tips to hard-pressed wartime housewives and intersperses her handy hints with delightful vocal renditions of her favourite 1940s songs. Miss Fortunes, a singing trio will be resurrecting the wonderful hits of the Second World War. Their toe tapping, memory jogging 1940s vocal harmonies will have visitors singing along to every song.

Airfix Make and Take

In the Visitor Centre families can work together to make an Airfix model. Participation costs £3.00 per person and the activity is suitable for children aged 8+. For younger children there is a wooden biplane to decorate and assemble together.

Wartime Menu

Our restaurant will be serving some wartime rations throughout the weekend and the Visitor Centre will be decorated street party style with bunting and flags.

Afternoon Concert

On Sunday 13 September there will be an afternoon concert by the Glebes Symphonic Wind Orchestra – click here for details.
