Shobdon Food And Flying Festival (7th June 2016)

Food and Flying Festival Prepares for Take Off!

The 2016 Shobdon Food and Flying Festival is just a few weeks away and organisers have released a packed schedule of events to wow the crowds. Taking place at Shobdon Airfield, north Herefordshire, on the 25th and 26th of June more than a hundred of the area’s finest food, drink and craft exhibitors will line up alongside a host of aviation attractions.

Visitors will be able to sample and buy everything from local wines, ales and ciders to pastries, delicate chocolates, local meats, specialty coffees and mouth-watering desserts. As well as the best flavours Herefordshire has to offer there will also be food from around the world on show including India, Thailand, Italy, France and Spain.

On the aviation side there are parachute displays, historic aircraft, trial flights, simulators, talks and a host of interesting aircraft coming and going throughout the weekend. The centrepiece, however, is undoubtedly the fly-pasts by two of the most famous and recognisable airframes in history: the Hurricane and Spitfire, which are planned for the Saturday and Sunday respectively in conjunction with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Event organiser, Marcus Woof said: “We’ve really gone all out this year to put together a line up that has something for everyone. There really will be exciting things to see in whichever direction you look, especially up!”

In addition, a greatly expanded Craft Marquee, cooking demonstrations by top local chefs, live music and a large selection of vintage vehicles complete a line-up that has grown year on year since two already popular local events joined forces back in 2013. On the Saturday evening at 5pm a free concert in a marquee has also been organised starring The Hereford Big Band.

Proceeds from the volunteer-run event are split equally between the hosts, Herefordshire Aero Club, and the Shobdon Food Festival, which has been going since 2005. It donates all profits to local charities and good causes and the list of organisations supported in the past includes local schools, sports clubs, community groups and cancer charities as well as various organisations that support disabled young people.

Event organiser Matt Teale said: “Supporting the local community is at the heart of everything we do whether that’s by raising money ourselves or by providing a platform for other organisations to do the same. First and foremost, though, our aim is to put on an event that celebrates the very best Herefordshire has to offer that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Last year over 6,000 people flocked to the event over the weekend with more expected this year. It costs £7 to get in with children still at primary school free. For more details visit
