Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre hosts Onny Meadows Butterfly Survey – 30th July 1-3pm (29th July 2016)

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre hosts Onny Meadows Butterfly Survey – 30th July 1-3pm

This Saturday 30th July, the 30 acre Onny Meadows surrounding Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre will play host to The Big Butterfly Count here in our lovely meadows.

Richard Fox (Head of Butterfly Recordings, Butterfly Conservation) said ‘The Big Butterfly Count is sponsored by Waitrose and John Lewis and is now in its seventh year. The survey is the largest of its kind in the world and it helps Butterfly Conservation find out how the UK’s common species are faring and how to best protect them in the future. More than 50,000 people took part last year, counting around 600,000 butterflies. The information we receive from this survey is vitally important because more than three-quarters of the UK’s butterflies have declined in the last 40 years, with some common species, such as the Small Tortoiseshell, suffering significant slumps’.

Help us get as many people as possible for our own Onny Meadows butterfly count.
