Take a trail or help create our commemorative Poppy Lawn… Bank Holiday Sun 28-Mon 29 August, from 11.30am.
Dudmaston has a long and lasting love affair with art. From the galleries to the garden, it’s possible to see and enjoy a wide range of media and movements at this special place. Join us this Bank Holiday for a ‘hands on’ celebration of our artistic heritage.
It’s 100 years since WWI’s Battle of the Somme. Help us create our Poppy Lawn, a tribute to those who fought and died there, including those from Dudmaston. Make a poppy and plant it in the lawn to help create what we hope will be an inspiring and fitting work of art. We will be posting a time lapse film on our website to show how it grows over the two days. Will you be able to spot your poppy?
Marketing and Events Officer Alexandra Blakeman said: “August Bank Holiday is always such a popular time for us and we can’t wait to get stuck into our arty activities. Prepare to see our existing art collection in a different way, enjoy the work and creativity of local artists and contribute to our growing poppy lawn in the garden. Whilst we’re not expecting to discover the next Picasso, the weekend certainly promises to be a resounding masterpiece.”
Join us at the Shepherd’s Hut for a children’s sensory art trail. Use your eyes, ears, hands and nose to help you complete the activities in the orchard and garden before returning to claim your prize. Head indoors to the Hall and follow our free Awesome Art trail to help you look at our art collection in a totally new way.
Shropshire artist Meg Hawkins will be joining us as she works on her latest designs. Meg will have a range of her popular prints, cards and merchandise for sale. There will also be a chance to have a go at glass blowing and watch live demonstrations from our local expert.
As the summer months draw to a close, there’s still plenty of exciting things happening at Dudmaston. Meet our resident beekeeper on Sunday 4 September to find out more about caring for our colonies or join Storybodger Simon as he leads a story walk down into the Dingle on Sunday 18 September. Please visit our website for event times, prices and tickets.
Normal admission applies plus a small charge for the children’s sensory art trail.
