Spookley Pumpkin Festival at Apley Farm Shop (5th October 2016)

Spookley Pumpkin Festival at Apley Farm Shop

A farm shop near Bridgnorth hosts one of the busiest halloween pumpkin festivals in Shropshire. Apley Farm Shop began organizing the Spookley Pumpkin Festival in 2012. This year it’s running 15-16 Oct & 22-30 Oct, which coincides with the schools’ half term week.

“Every year Spookley the Square Pumpkin brings back so much fun for all the family at Apley Farm Shop” explained Lady [Harriet] Hamilton. “Some children even come in fancy dress, with painted faces & love choosing their own pumpkins from our pumpkin patch.”

As in previous years, climb aboard the Pumpkin Express, when children can hear the Spookley story being read by a friendly Mrs Pumpkin. The Express will take them to the pumpkin patch to select their own pumpkin. Once back in the courtyard, the pumpkins are carved & photographed to be entered in a competition on the Pigg’s Playbarn Facebook page. Winners will be informed by email on Monday 31 Oct & invited to collect their prizes.

For the Pumpkin Express, turning up on the day is possible, but some days were very busy last year & booking will guarantee a place. Just go to to book tickets via the Apley website.

Tickets range from £2.50 (adult), £5 (carving) to £16.50 (family) depending on what is selected: Options include a ride on the pumpkin express, carving your own pumpkin, a play in Pigg’s Playbarn & a copy of Spookley the Square Pumpkin story book. The story carries a strong anti-bullying message, which is shared with participating schools across the UK.

To complete the Spookley experience, the Creamery Café will have pumpkin recipes on the lunch menu including delicious pumpkin soup served with a pumpkin muffin. Customers can take home a free pumpkin recipe card to help families get cooking at home.

This year, the Spookley Pumpkin Festival has had nationwide coverage on the BBC programmes, Hairy Bikers & CBeeBies.

A free friendly pumpkin trail on the Skylark Nature Trail will also be available, for all ages.
