The North Wales Association of Male Voice Choirs perform St David's Day Concert (21st December 2016)

The North Wales Association of Male Voice Choirs perform St David's Day Concert

Following the resounding success of previous St David’s Day concerts at the Theatre Severn we are delighted to announce that on February 25th 2017 The North Wales Association of Male Voice Choirs have arranged another fantastic evening of music and song for us -an evening that is not to be missed.

The evening will be led by one of Wales’ finest choirs, Brythoniaid.

Established in 1964 the choir has grown to be one of today’s best concert, recording and competition choirs in Wales, indeed only last year they won their sixth National Eisteddfod - a competition they first won in 1969. The choir hale from the Blaenau Ffestiniog area and as you would expect are steeped in the traditions of welsh male voice choir four part harmonies. But this is a choir that has never been afraid to experiment and try new things indeed they have performed songs by New Order and the Pet Shop Boys who were so impressed with the choirs’ version of one of their recordings they asked the choir to join them on stage.

The philosophy of the Association is to support, whenever possible, young musicians and this year is no exception. We are delighted to announce that joining the concert stage will be four tremendous young artists. Triawd Nantclwyd - a trio of very talented young singers whose harmonies will cut straight to your heart.

The group is made up of 3 school friends who have been brought up with the tradition of music in the Ruthin area since they were very young. Lisa, Begw and Llio all went to Ysgol Pen Barras as youngsters and were fortunate to have sung as individual soloists and as part of the choir in the Royal Albert Hall as well as the performance stage at Disneyland Paris. Their ages range from 15 -17 years old. Lisa is currently studying for her A levels at Ysgol Glan Clwyd whilst Begw and Llio both study at Ysgol Brynhyfryd. They have all been successful in the Urdd Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod over the years as individuals and they are all members of Côr Cytgan Clwyd which won the festival choir award this year in Carlow, Ireland and won the National Eisteddfod youth choir this year in Abergavenny. Triawd was set up nearly 3 years ago to compete at the Ŵyl Gerdd Dant and since then they have entertained at various weddings and concerts in North Wales.

Last but by no means least we are delighted that we have an incredible young pianist Julian Gonzales. Julian has been playing the piano since the age of 6 when he started lessons with Ann Atkinson. At age 11 he began lessons with the renowned Welsh pianist Iwan Llywelyn-Jones. Julian is now 17 and in September he joined the Junior Royal Northern College of Music. He has competed successfully at the Urdd Eisteddfod and the Welsh National Eisteddfod. Julian plays mainly classical music and particularly enjoys playing pieces by the romantic composers. Julian also plays the French Horn and is a member of several orchestras, including the North Wales Youth Orchestra

The inimitable Dilwyn Price will once again host the evening - those of you lucky enough to come to last year’s concert will know that Dilwyn is an act in his own right. He is a renowned conductor, compere and announcer at major international sporting events

As with previous years the concert is not just about show-casing the very best of Welsh musical talent - it is also about supporting those less fortunate than ourselves and this year we are proud and delighted to be supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

So, come along and enjoy a fabulous evening of song and music.
