Local Charity Continues Offer of Free Cookery Course! (7th November 2017)

Local Charity Continues Offer of Free Cookery Course!

Running Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms, local charity Grow Cook Learn, is committed to connecting people to the food, history and landscape of the Shropshire Hills.

With thanks to funding from Ludlow Food Festival, the charity’s Ready Steady Cook courses are back again for those who would like to buy, prepare and eat more home cooked food but lack confidence, skills and motivation to get going.

The charity has a long record of enthusing folk about food and experienced cook and trainer Milly Rees will be joined by cookery educator Margaret Appleton to lead the sessions. There will be two free, hands-on taster sessions to choose from on Tuesday 21st November, one in the morning from 10am-12pm and one in the afternoon 1.30pm-3.30pm. The taster sessions will be followed by six sessions early next year for just £3 each or £15 for all six. All participants will take a meal home that they have cooked.

Participants will be encouraged to work together and there will be opportunities for friendly discussion and swapping of skills and experiences. The aim of the courses is to bring cookery education to those that may not be able to afford or explore these options for themselves.

Stephanie Bellows, Education Manager at the Centre, says “Food should and can be simple: anyone is capable of making simple tasty and economic meals for themselves or their families. We want everyone to enjoy food like we do!”

Those wanting to be involved should contact the Centre on 01588676060.

Entry to the Discovery Centre and Onny Meadows is free but there is a charge for visitors to enjoy our Shropshire Hills Through Time exhibition and visit our mammoth. The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre offers an extensive programme of family events, adult courses and a variety of activities for the whole family. The unique grass roofed building houses a replica of the famous mammoth skeleton found in Shropshire. The café serves delicious home-cooked food. Browse our extensive shop selling a range of quirky gifts. Every half term and school holiday we provide hands-on family activities. For further details call 01588 676060 or visit the website:
