Arr me hearties, there’s a whole treasure chest of pirate-themed family fun to be opened at the Severn Valley Railway this February Half-Term.
After a short rest for winter maintenance, the Railway will be fired-up and in full steam - its fleet of heritage steam locomotives buffed and polished, ready to take passengers on exciting adventures along the line From February 17th -25th.
Families can stop-off and embark on a seafaring journey of adventure at ‘Buccaneer Bay’ – otherwise known as The Engine House Visitor Centre.
Scurvy seadogs can take part in a pirate trail – a quest to retrieve the lost ancient amulet from the fabled treasure chest of Pirate Pete, following clues located around the many exhibits, from ‘Corsair’s Cove’ to ‘Port Rascal’.
Creative youngsters can make their very own pirate hats and eye-patches on the arts and crafts tables, take part in a fun children’s quiz and marvel at the intricate Manchester Model Tramway layout – well-behaved shipmates may even get the chance to have a go at controlling the trams themselves.
Children can bring their teddies along to hear some exciting tales as storyteller Jake Evans comes to visit on Tuesday 20th, while colourful capers are on the cards for Thursday 22nd as Bewdley-based circus entertainer Anthony Arnold arrives in town.
At Kidderminster, the Coalyard Miniature Railway will be in operation from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th, weather permitting). Rides cost £1 each, and the Kidderminster Railway Museum will be open to explore.
Clare Gibbard, the SVR’s marketing and communications manager, said: “We’ve got a raft of pirate-themed fun heading our way this half-term, coupled with storytelling and circus skills – and, of course, lots of steam trains.
“Our Engine House Visitor Centre, or should I say ‘Buccaneer Bay’ will be a hive of activity, offering lots family fun whatever the weather.”
