New family attraction near Bridgnorth (23rd May 2018)

Fun-filled summer days for all ages can be found in a new maze at a farm shop near Telford & Bridgnorth. Apley Farm Shop is expecting to open its first maize maze on Sunday 15 July. “Our exact opening date of course depends on the weather over the next few months”, explained Lady Hamilton, Marketing Manager.

We tried planting it using the very latest Precision Farming technology, which uses GPS software to link the design plan & the drill. This would have only planted the maize seed where required & not along the paths. Unfortunately, due to the complex design of the maze this was not possible using the software available on the day. We will now mark out the plan using GPS and cut away the plants where we don’t want them to grow.

“The maze has been planted with a variety of maize that is usually grown as a feed for cattle. We expect the plants will grow up to 10 feet tall. The antelope design is inspired by the crest on top of Lord Hamilton’s family’s coat of arms, created in 1885. Customers can watch it grow week by week.“

Lady Hamilton continued “We will soon launch a competition to have a chance to win a ticket for a family of five. Just visit Apley Farm Shop’s website before 15 July.

Lord Hamilton, Apley Estate owner explained “It’s a great new attraction at Apley Farm Shop & being farm based, it also fits in well with the Apley Estate. It’s one of many maize mazes around the country which are very popular not just with families, but with all ages groups. Visitors follow a series of clues to find the maze centre, after which they can enjoy a range of other activities & food onsite.”

As well as standard tickets, the Summer Fun tickets will provide a great day out for all the family. They include entry to Pigg’s Playbarn, Scotty’s Donkeys & Animal Park & Apley’s free Skylark Nature Trail as well as our straw bale mountain. Trailer rides, which are extra, are available when the weather permits.

General Manager John Wesley continued: “We have so much to offer this summer, it’ll be easy to while away the whole day at Apley Farm Shop. Being a farm shop, there’s plenty of healthy & delicious food from the Apley BBQ, the Creamery Café or Pigg’s Playbarn. Some may prefer to choose a picnic lunch from the Apley Delicatessen & head off nature trail for a real country experience.

Tickets start from £4 & are available on the day or online. Booking is NOT essential & parking is plentiful. For full details & times, visit www.apleyfarmshop.co.uk, call 01952 581 002 or text / call 07739 320 314. The maze will close on Sunday 30 Sept.

The opening is expected to coincide with the Apley Classic Motor Day also on Sunday 15 July (10-4pm). It’s a free event held on the event field at Apley Farm Shop - free for cars to register & free for visitors to come & admire them. It’s grown in popularity every year since it began 7 years ago. Car owners are encouraged to pre-register their cars on Apley Farm Shop’s website.
